Lawrence B. "Billy" Coker, Jr. Graveside services for Lawrence B. "Billy" Coker, Jr. will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Coker's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Coker, 87, of Meridian died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation Center in York, Alabama. He was born on May 30, 1926, in Vimville to the late Lawrence B. Coker, Sr. and Sarah Gladys Coker. He attended Vimville Schools before enlisting in the United States Maritime Service during World War II. He was also in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He lived most of his adult life in Manhattan and Staten Island, New York. He worked as a bus driver for the New York City Transit Authority. When he retired in 1989, he moved to Woodlock Springs; Hawley, Pennsylvania. He returned to the Vimville area in 2001. He is survived by his wife, Edna; his sister, Hazel Coker Marshall of Alexandria, Virginia and step-daughters Jeanine Maclary and husband Robert of Panama City Beach, Florida; Maureen Lucks and husband Roger of Bethesda, Maryland and Carleen Noble of Hendersonville, Tennessee and nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Jean Coker Landrum, his brother and sister-in-law Tommy and Betty Coker and nephew Lawrence T. Coker and niece Carolyn Williamson Brown.
