Bubba Aust, age 84, of the Mt. Nebo Community passed away Friday, June 20, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Bubba was born January 18, 1941, to Marvin & Margaret Aust in Electric Mills, MS, following his father's death, he was reared in Binnesville, MS by his Granny Aust, aunts, and uncles.

During his Junior High years, he moved to Hattiesburg, MS, with his mother and stepfather. During his summer breaks, he combined wheat from Ada, Oklahoma to Sidney, Montana with his best friend, Sonny. Bubba graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1960. After graduation, he pursued his college football career at Louisiana College. He then left to join the Army, with the 4th Calvary attached to the 25th Division stationed at Vietnam, doing two tours in Southeast Asia, Thailand and Vietnam. During his service time he was a member of the Army Football Team, one of his fondest memories was playing in the Honolulu Bowl. Following his Army service, Bubba returned to East Mississippi Junior College as an Assistant Student Football Coach under Head Coach, Bull Sullivan. He then accepted a football scholarship to Delta State University where he finished his football career in 1967.

Bubba met the love of his life, June Craig in 1966, marrying her in 1967. They moved back to DeKalb, MS, where they bought their farm and made their home for the next 58 years. He loved June more than life and loved his children and grandchildren. He instilled in them to be strong and independent; he was so proud of them all. He guided with a firm but soft hand and heart. Bubba was definitely the definition of a husband, daddy, Paw, and friend.

Bubba was a proud farmer, growing cotton, beans, cattle, and trees. In 1985, he began to serve as a Deputy Sheriff with the Kemper County Sheriff's Department until 1988. He then joined the Department of Wildlife of Fisheries and Parks as a Game Warden from 1988 until his retirement in 2003.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, June Craig Aust; daughters, Betty Lynn Haggard (Daniel), LouAnn Wilson (Buck); son, Lee Aust; grandchildren, Brandi Lumpkins (Jeremy), Megan Skaggs (Tommy), Dakota Aust, Hunter Hall (Maggie), Haley Horton (Jake), Tristan Haggard, Cash Wilson, Kix Wilson, and Faith Wilson; great grandchildren, Ansley, Addie, and Easton Skaggs; Henson and Carson Hall.

He was preceded in death by his son Jim Aust; his father, Marvin Aust and his mother Margaret Stennis and his stepfather, James "Tuff" Stennis, and sister Anita Goodwin.
