Services for Lewis E. Michel will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Frank Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Michel, 93, of Meridian died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Poplar Spring Nursing Center. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. Mr. Michel was co-owner of Michel Packing Company and was an avid cattleman. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Florence Merz Michel of Meridian; daughter, Patricia Backus and husband Alan of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandchildren, Steven Backus of Raleigh, North Carolina and Kenny Backus and wife Kristi of Montreal, Canada; nephews, Joey Michel and wife Faye of West Point, Mississippi, Ernest Michel and wife Shirley of Center Hill Community and Father Richard Smith of Jackson; niece Denise Herrington and husband Randy of Ridgeland.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Michel, Jr. and sister, Carolyn Michel Smith.

Pallbearers will be Mark Denney, Charles "Bub" Mosley, Lee Allen, John Culpepper, Stanley Shannon and Dr. David Newell. Honorary pallbearer will be Ralph Morgan.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
