Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Ellen Kierstead Howell will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2018 at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. John Branning officiating. Interment will follow at Collinsville Methodist Church Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Howell, 79, of Collinsville, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Lois was a retired teacher and librarian of over 30 years with the Hattiesburg and Petal School systems. Mrs. Howell was known for her gift of conversing with others, which was also known as her superpower. In her retirement she enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren; as well as with her siblings and many dear friends from her childhood and school days in Indiana. Lois also dearly loved her golden doodle puppy, whom she aptly named “Ellie” after her own middle name.
Mrs. Lois is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Dr. John Emory Howell, children, John Howell (Trish), Dr. Greg Howell (Anderson) and Lt Col Tim Howell (Veonne); seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Sisters, Jewel Yohe and Nancy Heer and one brother, Marvin Kierstead and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Eugene Lewis and Elexis Davis Kierstead.
