Mr. Douglas, age 94, of Meridian passed away peacefully in the company of loved ones on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Bedford Care Center of Marion.

Mr. Douglas was born and raised in Drew, Mississippi. He was a long time resident of Meridian, where he had a successful career as a painting contractor. Over the years, Lon enjoyed his Army reunions, bird hunting, and road trips. More often, he favored spending time with family and friends and being “papa” to his eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was a lifetime VFW member (Post 79). Lon was a decorated World War II veteran honored for his valor while serving as a sergeant with the 158th Regimental Combat Team—the “Bushmasters”—in the Philippine Islands.

Lon is survived by his daughter, Sharlotte Cornish, his son, Jack Douglas (Robin), his daughter Judy Ryburn (Jack); sister, Martha Viner; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed.

He was preceded in death by an extraordinary woman: his beloved wife of 65 years, Kathleen; his parents; seven sisters; two brothers; and his son-in-law, Bill Cornish.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
