Mrs. Baskin, 101, died Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Bedford Nursing Center in Mendenhall, MS following an extended illness.

Lula Mae was born august 31, 1925 in Vicksburg, MS to her parents Robert “Woody” Savell and Mary Lula Divine Savell. She was welcomed by four brothers, Odie, Hubert, Curtis, and James and two sisters, Mary Lee and Gertie Mae. Later three more sisters would be born, Juanita, Mildred, and Lorene. Lula Mae Married Howard Hubert Baskin in 1946, they had four children, Howard Marcell, James Olin, Brenda LaGail, and Joseph Delynn. Lula Mae was a devoted wife and mother.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Missionary Baptist Church and loved her Lord and Savior; she memorized countless passages of scripture, including full chapters of the Bible, even into her 80’s. Her long-life ended September 8, 2026 at the age of 101. We attributed this to the Lord and her obeying the 5th commandment to “Honor your Father and Mother” found in Exodus 20:12.

Lula Mae leaves her son, Howard Marcell (Dian); her daughter, Brenda Maese; Seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Lorene Dooley; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband (1992), her sons, Joseph “Joe” (2019) and James (2020); his wife, Sue (2026); eight of her siblings, Curtis (1978), Odie (1993), Hubert (2000), Girtie Mae (2004), James (2010), Mary Lee (2011), Juanita (2022), and Mildred (2026); and her grandson, Dewayne Baskin (2023).
