Major General Frederick D. "Fred" Feinstein A Celebration of Life Service for Major General Frederick D. "Fred" Feinstein will be held Monday, January 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church with Reverend Lea McCracken and Reverend Cameron Douglas officiating with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Feinstein, age 73, of Meridian, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015 at Anderson Regional Medical Center. Major General Frederick D. Feinstein was commander of the Mississippi Air National Guard, Headquartered in Jackson, MS. General Feinstein held this position from May of 1996 until October, 1998. He served as the senior officer with responsibility for more than 2,500 officers and airmen assigned to six major units in three geographical locations. He was born on March 16, 1941 in Meridian, MS. On May 23, 1958 he joined the Mississippi Air National Guard's 153rd Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Key Field. After his enlisted tour, he received a direct commission and was selected to attend pilot training for the unit's then equipped RF-84Faircraft. He graduated from pilot training at Laredo Air Force Base, Texas on December 10, 1966. General Feinstein's military assignments include Squadron Pilot, Squadron Operations Officer, Squadron Commander, Deputy Commander for Maintenance, and Deputy Commander for Operations, and Wing Commander. His full-time assignments included Flying Training Instructor Pilot, Government Technical Representative/Chief Flight Test Pilot for the T-33A Facility previously located at Key Field, and Aircraft Maintenance Officer, Chief of Maintenance, and Air/Wing Command. General Feinstein was a Command Pilot with more than 5,000 flying hours. He was assigned to the Wing's top military position in 1989. Among General Feinstein's 18 awards and decorations includes the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Air Force Service Medal, Air Defense Force Expedition Medal (2), Air Force Longevity Medal, Military Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. State of Mississippi Awards includes Mississippi Magnolia Medal, Mississippi War Medal, Mississippi Service School Medal, and Mississippi Longevity Medal. Survivors include his wife, Cathy P. Feinstein; daughter, Renee Feinstein; step-daughter, Julie Martin and husband, Zac; granddaughter, Chandler Feinstein ; step-granddaughter, Catherine Martin; brother-in-law, Mike Parker and wife, Charlotte; nephew, Richmond Ross; cousin, Patti Davis; his beloved pets, Sadie, Francis, Sam, and Izzy; and a host of special friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frankie Key Bounds; stepfather and stepmother, Dr. Lemann H. and Wilma Bounds. The family requests memorials be made to First Christian Church.
