Funeral services for Lela “Marcella” Smith Langford will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Reverend Stephen Langford Lockley, her grandson, and Reverend Richard Williams officiating. Dr. Rhett Payne and Mr. Mark Gunn will present special music requested by Marcella. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Langford, 92, of Meridian Passed away on Tuesday, August 9th, 2016, at Anderson Regional Medical Center.
She was born on March 28, 1924 in Philadelphia, Mississippi. She was a star basketball player at Beulah Hubbard High School. Mrs. Langford was a loving stay at home mother while all of her daughters were in Elementary School. She served as a PTA officer and homeroom mom for many years. Mrs. Langford had a very successful career for 25 years as manager of Mangel’s Dress Shop in downtown Meridian. Mrs. Langford was very dedicated and involved with her church, Druid Hills United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included baking, putting fresh vegetables in the freezer, fishing, and caring for her family. Mrs. Langford was a true southern lady that lived her life with grace and style. She always had a positive attitude, and regardless of her situation, she always looked for the best. She was a shining example for her children and grandchildren. She left a legacy of hope, love and faith to all who knew her.
Mrs. Langford is survived by her loving family; daughters and their spouses: Alatha and Duffee Williams, Jo and Gerald Lockley, and Kathy and Brian Brookshire; grandchildren and spouses: Shelley and Jimmy Whittington, Hayley and Dr. Miles Shirley, Lang and Jennifer Williams, Wayne and Becky Lockley, Reverend Steven and Brenda Lockley, Dr. Brian and Mary Brookshire, and Dr. Cooper and Brandy Brookshire; great-grandchildren: Clair McCraw, Sara Paige Shirley, Conner Shirley, Marci Lockley, Maylee Lockley, Clara Brookshire, and Sadie Brookshire. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Langford’s grandchildren. A special thanks to the loving caregivers Tammy Weston and Shunte Weston. The family requests memorials be made to the MCC Foundation for The Marcella and Hubert Langford Scholarship fund or to Druid Hills United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held on Thursday August 11th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
