A private family service will be held at a later date per Mrs. Hunter’s wishes. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Margie Shedd Hunter, 79, of Meridian, MS passed away at her home on Thursday, August 7, 2025, just one week shy of her 80th birthday.

Born on August 14, 1945, to Grady Shedd and Myron Carpenter in Heidelberg, Mississippi; Margie was the youngest of two children. She grew up primarily in Heidelberg before moving to Meridian. She attended Clarkdale High School and went on to further her education at Meridian Junior College and Stanford University. Her career path was both varied and deeply fulfilling, each role reflecting her wide range of talents and interests. Most notably, she served at Delco Remy as an Employee Assistance Professional Representative (EAP) and was elected Union President of the UAW Local 2185 Chapter. During her tenure, she earned numerous recognitions and accolades before retiring. She was admired by many for her courageous leadership, loyalty, and wholehearted commitment to her peers.

She met her husband, Don, in early 1981, and they were married on November 13 of that same year. Together, they built a life rich with adventure and companionship, sharing a deep love for traveling, sailing, and fishing. Margie was also a gifted artist who found joy in painting, as well as in reading and cherishing time spent with friends and family. She and Don shared a special bond with their beloved dog, Ty, who brought warmth and happiness to their home.

Margie was the beloved matriarch of the family, guiding with wisdom, strength, and love. Her sparkle wasn’t just in her smile—she delighted in dressing beautifully and completing her look with her cherished jewelry. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering spirit and strength, marked by selflessness, ingenuity, boundless compassion, and a generosity that knew no limits — all woven together with her unmistakable wit and humor.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Don E. Hunter of Meridian, MS; daughters, Beverly Koonce Hall (Steve) of Meridian, MS and Linda Koonce Blackwell (David) of Meridian, MS; grandchildren, Scott Harris Gist Jr. (Samantha) of Meridian, MS, Carley Overstreet of Oklahoma City, OK, and Taylor Blackwell of Madison, MS; great grandchildren, Madison Gist, Mason Gist, Harper Grace Overstreet, Emma Katherine Stephens, and Crawford Brooks McCollum; her sister-in-law, Barbara Shedd of Brookhaven, MS; as well as a host of loving friends and extended family members.

Margie is preceded in death by her parents, Grady Shedd and Myron Shedd Jones; and her brother, Alvin Shedd.
