Martha Sanderford

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Sanderford will begin at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Arkadelphia Baptist Church with Brother Keith Lovett officiating. Service music will be provided by Brother Kim Culpepper. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Mrs. Sanderford, 91, of Bailey, MS died Thursday, April 11, 2024, at DeKalb Regional Medical Center in Ft. Payne, AL following a brief illness.

Mrs. Martha was a member of Arkadelphia Baptist Church. She was well-known for her musical gifts and sang in the church choir as long as her health permitted. She was a loving person who cared for many and was a mother figure to countless people in the community.  She was known as “Nanny” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting many blankets and other items; she always had a craft project to work on.

Mrs. Martha is survived by her children, Marian Mattox (Junior), Margaret Carter (Butch), and Melissa Kelly (Doug). Grandchildren, Tracie Edmonson (Shane), Laura Rogers (Nikki), Will Mattox (Haven), Casey Dean, and Matt Hailey. Great-grandchildren, Cody Edmonson (Natalie), Alec Edmonson (Samantha), Maggie Todd, Brooklynn Hardy, Mikeal Hardy, Mason Dean, Hadlee Hailey, Kallie Mattox, and Andy Mattox; great-great-grandchildren, Lane Edmonson, Casen Edmonson, and one on the way, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and her numerous “Adopted Children.”

Mrs. Sanderford is preceded in death by her husband of over 47 years, Andy M. Sanderford; her parents Edward B. and Ollie S. Walker; and her brother, Edward B. Walker, Jr.

The Sanderford Family suggests memorials be made as donations to The American Heart Association or to the Arkadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in lieu of flowers.

Pallbearers will be David Morris, Doyle Perkins, Will Mattox, Matt Hailey, Cody Edmonson, and Alec Edmonson. Serving as Honorary Pallbearer will be Bo Bosarge.
