Funeral services for Mr. Marvin Weir will be Friday, June 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Bro. Davey Wilkinson and Bro. Sephus Garrett officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
Marvin passed away June 10, 2019 at Anderson Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Marvin was a native of Meridian. Marvin served three years in the United States Marine Corps and he served during the Korean War. He was the first employee hired at Roadway of Meridian where he retired 34 years later. He was a local business owner, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 79, lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 21, TISBA, and a member of Christian Fellowship Independent Methodist Church.
Marvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a friend to many and loved by all who knew him. He never failed to put a smile on someone’s face. He loved country music and loved to strum his guitar. He enjoyed visiting with friends and family. Above all, Marvin had a strong passion for serving his country. He put his love for the United States above all. His dedication and sacrifice for this country will forever be appreciated and he will always be remembered as a U.S. Marine.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Bettie Jane Weir; his son, Marvin Ray Weir (Diana) of Meridian; two daughter, Anne Miller (James Harold) of Meridian, and Cynthia Roberts (Ricky) of Meridian; several grandchildren, Chad Miller (Erin) of Hattiesburg, Jamie Miller of Meridian; Brian Ray Weir of Alabama, Tommie Coker (Stephanie) of Meridian, and Ashley Hatcher (Paul David) of Meridian; several great-grandchildren, Harper Anne and Charlee Kate Miller, Jace Lawrence Coker, Ricki Kate Hatcher, and Gage Moore. He is also survived by three brothers, Otis Weir of Meridian, David Weir of Meridian, and Leon Weir of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie May and Bertha Weir; two sisters, Margie Crocker and Barbara Maxey; two brothers, O.W. Weir and William Franklin Weir; and one granddaughter, Pamela Dichelle Weir.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Miller, Jamie Miller, Tommie Coker, Paul David Hatcher, Bubba Weir, and James “Tinker” Hardy.
Memorial contributions may be shared with The COPD Foundation.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
