Mary, age 82, of Meridian, MS was called home to be with her heavenly father on Tuesday, May 31, 2016.
Mary was an active member of 15th Ave. Baptist Church. She graduated in 1951 from Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, WV. After her first two children graduated high school, she went back to school to realize her dream of nursing in 1980. She retired as a RN from Rush Hospital after over 20 years of service. She will be remembered first as a Christian. She was known as outgoing and adventurous, benevolent, and was the matriarch of the Bernard family. If the Bernard's were a solar system then Mary was the sun they all revolved around. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, beloved by her family. Most importantly she is now with her husband Bill and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Survivors include her sons, Gary Bernard and David Andrew “Andy” Bernard and wife, Christi Fox Bernard, of Meridian; two daughters, Carol Bibee and husband, Mike, of Nashville, TN and Rita Dearman and husband, Bill, of Meridian; nine grandchildren, Summer Bernard Hungate of Byhalia, MS, Jeremy Glisson of Maryville, TN and Michelle Glisson Hastings of Knoxville, TN. Laurie Bernard Shetlar of Houston, TX, Evan Bernard of Pensacola, FL, Andrew and Alley Bernard of Meridian, MS, Elijah and Sawyer Dearman of Meridian, MS; great-grandchildren, Sam, Emma, Sarah, Kassidy, Nathanial, Chase, and Heather; brother, Bob Wininger and wife, Melba, of Richardson, TX; a niece, Marsha Welch; and a nephew, Robert Wininger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Bernard; father and mother, Norman and Beatrice Wininger; and one grandchild, Matthew Bernard.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to 15th Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
