Mary Louise Bullock Funeral services for Mary Louise Bullock will be held Monday, March 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Bullock, age 92, of Meridian, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at her home. She was the last living member of her family from the "Greatest Generation" that ever lived. She grew up during the hardships of the Great Depression and worked as a young adult during World War II. She endured being raised with six brothers who were closer to her in age than her sisters were. She would tell about how one of them would talk her into doing chores for him in return for teaching her how to whistle, an accomplishment she continued into her nineties. She would recall how one brother tied her to the front porch on a dare and left her there all day. When a friend came along looking for the brother he was nowhere to be found, and the friend walked on leaving her tied to the porch. She never liked blue jeans, because she had to wash her brothers' blue jeans by hand on a washboard. She worked all her adult life and retired from the Flintkote Lumber Company. Aunt Louise married her longtime friend, Lloyd Bullock, in 1981 at the age of 58. They traveled the world and made many memories together. She lovingly and unselfishly assisted with the care of her mother and mother-in-law in the declining years before their deaths, and cared for her husband during his illness and eventual death. All of these events helped mold her into the strong woman she was. You didn't have to be around her for long to know she was independent, determined, generous and fair, out spoken and had a terrific sense of humor. When you visited her, you knew she was going to say, "What do you know? Tell me some news." You have to be prepared ahead of time and make sure you had some news. She wouldn't let anyone do anything for her that she didn't compensate them for and did everything for herself up until her health began to decline. She always knew what she wanted and wouldn't settle for less. She would tell you in a heartbeat if she did or didn't like something. Her sense of humor was something we all loved about her. We all have memories of the pranks she pulled and the ones we pulled on her. She entertained us with her mischief and fun loving personality. Mary Louise Bullock, known lovingly to her surviving family as "Aunt Louise" is survived by fifteen nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her father, William Payne; mother, Susie Payne; brothers, Roger Payne, Sam Payne, Frank Payne, Hubert Payne, Nolan Payne, and Adam Payne; sisters, Ora Payne, Sadie May, and Willie Mae Finelli; and her husband, James Lloyd Bullock. Her family was extremely important to her. She loved her entire family. She cherished all of the phone calls, visits and mail she got from her family. She kept up with her family's marriages, births, illnesses, hardships, and celebrations. Time and time again she would tell how proud she was of her family and laughingly say, "As far as I know none of them has ever been in prison." Last but not least, Aunt Louise loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She did not practice a formal religion, but lived her life for the most part the way the scriptures require. She was baptized as a child at Mars Hill United Methodist Church. She loved others, was compassionate and fair to those less fortunate, was a gracious hostess, generous, loving, truthful and honest. She was grateful for what God had blessed her with and called out to Him in her distress, because she knew He was near and loved her. She humbled herself and asked for forgiveness as commanded. She cherished every prayer anyone prayed on her behalf. She enjoyed listening to songs that praised the Lord and strengthened her relationship with Him. The scriptures assure us that Aunt Louise is now with the Lord in heaven. Romans 10:13 says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Acts 16:31 says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shall be saved." Remember Aunt Louise by the love she shared, and be comforted by the love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
