Mary Meeks Hutchinson

Mrs. Hutchinson, 92, of Meridian, died peacefully April 25, 2022, in Spring, Texas. A private service and burial were held at Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home was honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Mary was born in Neshoba County, Mississippi on February 6, 1930, to Lillian Gertrude Warren Meeks and Covert Delome Meeks. Mary was the beloved wife of Robert D. "Dan" Hutchinson, Sr. for almost 61 years, until his death. She was a devoted Christian, wife, and mother, attending Faith Baptist Church prior to her move to Texas in 2011.

Mary became a registered nurse after attending nursing school at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian. She later completed her bachelors, masters, and post-masters nursing education through the University of Southern Mississippi. After serving as a nurse in the hospital and public health setting, Mary was Assistant Director of Public Health Nursing with the Mississippi State Board of Health before returning to USM and creating their RN-to-BSN program in Meridian.

Mary enjoyed her hobby of genealogy and was a proud member of the Sam Dale chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include her sister, Mae Meeks Haggard; sister-in-law, Katherine Simmons; children, Libby (Ellis) Hedaya, Anne Hutchinson (Stuart Hara), Bob (Kathy) Hutchinson; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Wiley Meeks, husband Dan Hutchinson, and infant daughter, Mary Danice Hutchinson.
