Mary Ellen Meyers

May 13, 1941 — October 27, 2022

Mrs. Mary Ellen Meyers, 81, passed away peacefully at her home, Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022, surrounded by her family and friends.

Born May 13, 1941, in Madison, WI, Mary was the youngest of 5 children of Hector and Caroline Evans. Her baptism on June 22, 1941 and subsequent confirmation on June 19, 1955, both at her hometown church of St. John's Lutheran, were key stepping stones in Mary's lifelong journey developing and growing in her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her enduring characteristics like compassion, a strong work ethic, sharing, a loving spirit, joy and a wonderful sense of humor were all born out of close relationships with siblings, neighborhood friends and other youth she met through the years at events through the church. Mary had many interests growing up, but none tapped into her talents like they did with her piano lessons. Eventually learning to play both the piano and organ, she was able to share her love of music to others through playing around the house and in her church for more than half her life. She displayed athletic talent on the varsity softball team and was nominated Homecoming Queen her Junior year. After completing a secretarial specific curriculum, she graduated from East High School in Madison, WI in 1959.

After graduating, Mary left her home, city and state at age 18 to work in the Missouri Lutheran Church offices in Columbus, OH. There she met a co-worker, Ann Meyers, who eventually convinced Mary to transfer up to Minneapolis, MN. They both moved in with Ann's parent's with Mary renting the upstairs room of Ann's brother. Her brother George, a Navy Lieutenant and helicopter pilot, comes home on leave and the rest is history. Following a storybook worldwide long distance courtship cemented with hundreds of long distance letters written, Mary was engaged to George Lee Meyers on June 2, 1962 and later happily married on December 22, 1962.

Having moved to Anderson, IN and blessed with 2 sons, Andrew and Daniel, they spent some time in New Jersey before ultimately settling in Meridian, MS. Mary, a dedicated stay at home mother, quickly immersed and melded her Midwestern roots, accent and joyful personality into the classy Southern town. The talented baker who never met a stranger and became a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the LWML there, Garden Club, Literary Club, Meridian Interfaith Association, Pilot Club (President), Silver Cross Circle, Junior Auxiliary of Meridian (President), and a founding member of the Colonial Acres Women's Walking Club. After many years, Mary found her way back into the working world doing collections for SMS. Mary was an accomplished tennis player, avid Alabama and Green Bay Packers football fan and attended thousands of her sons' sports, academic and social games and activities. Mary eventually was diagnosed with progressive Multiple Sclerosis, which she quietly battled for more than 35 yrs.

Mrs. Mary is survived by her loving, faithful and doting husband of 60 years, George; her children Andrew Meyers(Kim) and Danny Meyers(Tricia); her grandchildren, Cade Meyers, Luke Meyers, Elizabeth Meyer and David McVeay; her sisters Carol Rivers (Tom), Janice Langholff (Dean); sister in law, Joan Evans; Brother in Law Don Luther; Nieces Lori Albrecht (Curt), Janet Bollig (Reed), Nancy Holland (Bob), Jill Schroeder; Nephews, Richard Evans (Crystal), "Baby" Darin Langholff (Kim), Nate Luther (Deb), along with a family full of great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mother Caroline Evans, father Hector Evans; her eldest sister Beverly Ann Evans; brother Harold Evans, sister in law Ann Luther; and niece Patricia Polensky (Conrad).

Mary Meyers was an inspiration to so many who brightened the days with her God given gift of gab to the throngs of friends, family, and church and club members who faithfully came to visit her. We know that she especially wanted to thank the selfless annual family cross country travels, those who were in on daily phone conversation, bridge and domino playing groups, meal delivers and world traveling magnet collectors, etc. who meant so much to her daily. Mary was truly the best combination of wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend ever created. She "did it right", her kind and warming soul peacefully and quickly left us all as she passed to be reunited with God and those she has longed to see again.

Funeral services are being postponed until a later date. Additionally, plans will be made to have Mary ultimately put to rest in Rose Lawn Cemetery, in Madison Wisconsin.
