Mary Marguerite “Peggy” Denton

Graveside services for Peggy Denton will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Magnolia Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Owen officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Denton, age 94, of Meridian, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Denton was born in Mohawk, Tennessee and raised in Jefferson City, Tennessee. She graduated from high school in 1940 from Jefferson City High School. After high school she moved to Michigan to live with family. She then moved to Oakridge, Tennessee where she worked on the Manhattan Project. It was there that she met the love of her life, William J. Denton Sr. They moved to Meridian where they raised their family.

Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Denton Quinn (Tom) and Peggy Denton Cannady (Norman); son, William J. “Bo” Denton Jr. (Lea-Ann); eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters, Catherine Bible and Maxine Minter; brothers, James Gass, Kenneth Gass (Janie), and Charles Gass (Linda); and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, William J. Denton Sr.; parents, Leonard and Callie Gass; brothers, Conard Gass, Bob Gass, and Snow Gass.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Norman Cannady, Jr., Thomas E. Quinn, Jr., Brian M. Quinn, Mark Alan Ros, Jr., and son in laws, Norman Cannady, Sr. and Thomas Quinn, Sr.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Golden Living Center and Aldersgate Retirement Community for the dedicated care they provided to their mother.
