Matthew “MICK” S. Nussbaum
Matthew “MICK” S. Nussbaum passed away on June 5, 2016 at the age of 52. Mick was born in Birmingham, Alabama but was raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He graduated from Warren Central High School in 1982 and joined the United States Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and served aboard the aircraft carrier John H. Kennedy for three deployments as a Non-Destructive Metal Inspector (NDITECH) on naval aircraft and upon completion of service worked as a civilian contractor for Boeing and L3 as an NDITech at Meridian Naval Air Station.
He is preceded in death by his father, Matt Nussbaum of Vicksburg.
He is survived by his mother, Eugenia “Genie” Nussbaum; sister, Judy Nussbaum; and nephews, Matthew and Spencer Turnage all of Vicksburg. He has two sons, Steven M. Nussbaum of Scott AFB, Illinois and Joe Nussbaum of Columbus, Ohio and a grandson, Daemon Alexander Nussbaum.
Mick is well known in Meridian as the curator of the Meridian Railroad Museum and organizer of “RAILFEST” each November. The museum was his love and passion, as was his railroad photography.
He requested that memorials on his behalf be made to the Meridian Railroad Museum, 1805 Front Street, Meridian, MS or mailed to P.O. Box 466, Collinsville, MS 39325.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
