Matthew Brooks Pope

Funeral services for Matthew Pope will be held Friday, January 20, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Remus Baptist Church in Edinburgh, Mississippi. Dr. Dan Lanier and Reverend James Lewis will officiate, with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Pope, age 39, of Meridian, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017, in Meridian.

Matthew was a 1996 graduate of Clarkdale High School. He attended Mississippi State University, where he earned a BS degree in Business. After graduation, he joined the US Air Force and was stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas, where he was a successful Air Traffic Controller. Upon his discharge from the military, he began a successful career with AFLAC insurance. In 2015, he started a second career as Recreational Land Manager with Mississippi Land and Lakes, as well as being a licensed real estate agent with The National Land Realty Co. Matthew had discovered his passion and spent the last eighteen wonderful months working with his dad in the great outdoors.

Matthew is survived by his wife, Kristy Pope; father, Randy Pope and stepmom, Angie, and mother, Patrice Box; sisters, Jodi Pope and Savannah Pope; grandmothers, Edwina Pope and Gwen Box, as well as numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Devon Pope and Kenneth Box, and grandmother, Betty Box.

Pallbearers will be Josh Rutledge, Tony Ware, Val Montgomery, Eugene Box, Doug Box, Spencer Pope, Brady Pope, and Jeremy Meador.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Remus Baptist Church Building Fund: 2981 Remus Road, Carthage MS 39051-7488.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 19, from 5:00p.m.-7:00p.m. at the funeral home and from 10:00a.m.-11:00a.m at the church on Friday.
