Mattie Earl (Jones) Griffin Graveside services for Mattie Earl (Jones) Griffin will be held on Friday, August 8, 2014, at 3:30 p.m. at Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery, with Brother David Chandler from Meridian Assembly of God Church officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Griffin was born to Roy Earl Jones and Florence Emma Hannah Hall on October 6, 1919. She passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at the age of ninety-four. Mattie was a wife, mother, and homemaker. She made a career as a cosmetologist after graduating from Townsend's School of Cosmetology in Meridian in 1964, owning and operating a beauty salon. She is survived by two daughters, Elsie Graham and Bebe Gianakos and husband, Kris, all of Meridian. Mrs. Griffin was the oldest of eight siblings, and is survived by her three brothers and four sisters. In her life she enjoyed family, friends, gardening, cooking and creativity. She was an active member of Four Square Gospel Church. She was blessed in life with four granddaughters, Cindy Barnes and husband, Jason, Windy Lundy and husband, Jamie, Mindy Bradley and husband, Karlton, and Krilecia Michael Gianakos, one grandson, Nicholas Kris Gianakos; seven great-granddaughters: Arryanna Castelow, Madison Barnes, Lydia Warren, Kayli Warren, Ava Bradley, Peyton Bradley, and Nicole Anne Gianakos; one great-grandson, Ashton Lundy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Each Sunday morning, her home was filled with the sounds of her singing gospels and the jiggling of the pressure cooker. Her home was also filled with love and pride. She was an artist in the garden and with a needle and thread. Her family and close friends marveled at her creations. During the 1960 Meridian Centennial, many at home and in the community donned hats and dresses lovingly constructed by her hands. Matt, as she was known by those who really knew her, will be remembered for her sense of humor and generous ways. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make contributions to The Nicholas Gianakos Memorial Scholarship at Meridian Community College. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
