Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Briggs, age 79, of Meridian, passed away January 11, 2014 at 4:42 a.m. at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Flora, MS. She was born December 21, 1934 in Clark County and was the eldest of five children to Reverend Cecil and Annie Mae Lafferty. She made Meridian, MS her home. She worked at several places before going to Lockheed Martin from 1970 to retirement in 1996. Her life was about doing for others, taking care of her family, and serving her Lord Jesus. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, cooking, baking, and she loved working in her flowers. She was a woman of strong faith and prayer. Survivors include her three children, Martha Nell Jackson of Bentonia, MS, William Larry Briggs of Ridgeland, MS, and Melinda Kay Jenkins and her husband, Kenny of Flora, MS; sister, Mavis L. Moffett; two brothers, Edward Travis Lafferty and Carlton Ray Lafferty (Jane); and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Evan "Junior" Briggs; parents, Reverend Cecil and Annie Mae Lafferty; and brother, Ronald Dale Lafferty. The family wishes to thank our wonderful sitters, Shonda Mickens and Renee Lloyd, and for all of the love and care they gave our mother. We, the children, could not have asked for nor had a better mother. We know that she is where she has longed to be, in Heaven with her Lord and holding the hand of our daddy. She is now able to sit at the River of Jordan and walk on the Streets of Gold. Pallbearers will be Gary Applebee, Sam Williams, Scott Jay, Joey Hines, Josh Myers, and Roger Devires. The family request memorials be made to The Alzheimer's Association- Mississippi Chapter, 196 Charmant Drive, Suite 4, Ridgeland, MS 39157, or you can call 601-987-0020.
