Mellie Thompson Trawick

Funeral service of Mrs. Mellie will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Reverends Gibb Prince and Matt Hall officiating. Immediately afterwards, burial will follow at Andrew Chapel Church at 9203 Hillview Drive, Meridian, Mississippi 39305. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Mellie passed away peacefully in her bed at the age of 80 on January 18, 2025.

Mellie was born on July 17, 1944, in the Shucktown community. She had nine brothers and sisters. She met the love of her life, Howard Ray Trawick, in the year 1962. Howard and Mellie were married in June of 1964. They have four children and three grandchildren. Mellie is survived by her husband, Howard and three children, Kim, Amanda (Jeff) and Patrick (Courtney). Mellie was also survived by her sister, Martha Lovorn. Mellie was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Kate Thompson, her infant son, Marcus and various brothers and sisters, namely Buck Thompson, Pete Thompson, Bobby Thompson, Bessie Pace, Charlie Thompson, Katherine Thompson, Ann Gaines, and Jackie Thompson. Ms. Mellie was survived by her three grandchildren, Reed, Aiden, and Ashlyn as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

Mellie graduated from Center Hill High School and then attended college at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Mississippi before marrying Howard. Mellie retired as the postmaster from Lauderdale Post Office in the year of 2005. She was a devout Christian and an active member at Andrew Chapel Church. She had a passion for the outdoors. She loved to fish, hunt and travel out west with her husband and family. She also enjoyed gardening, whether it was spring or summer flowers or fruits and vegetables. She would share with others by providing bouquets of flowers for the church or giving fruit and vegetables to friends and family.

Mellie was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She retired so she could enjoy traveling with her husband and spending time with grandchildren. She will be missed greatly.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Andrew Chapel Church of Meridian, Mississippi, or the Alzheimer's Association.

Pallbearers will be Mark Thompson, Reed Rainey, Stanley Rawson, Aiden Trawick, Benny Copeland, and Jeff Rainey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rickey Trawick, Phil Lee, and Glynn Wedgeworth, Sr.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the funeral home from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM with the funeral service at 1:00 PM.
