Funeral Services for Mr. Melvin Lackey will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Bro. Ben James officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lackey, 84, of Toomsuba, passed away Friday, November 10, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Lackey was an avid Ole Miss Fan and an avid golfer. Mr. Melvin retired after 26 years in the United States Air Force after serving tours in both Vietnam and Iceland, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sargent.  He also worked for the United Blood Services for fourteen years after returning to Toomsuba. Mr. Melvin was a member at Toomsuba Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and also served as a Sunday-School teacher for 27 years.

Mr. Lackey is survived by his wife of 62 years, Celia Lackey, his two sons, Jeff Lackey (Edie) and Alan Lackey (Tricia); Grandchildren, Daniel Lackey (Jill), Jennifer Cole (Jeff), Melissa Lackey, and Brandon Lackey; Great-Grandchildren, Hannah Lackey,  Zeke Lackey, JJ Cole and Lucy Joy Cole. Sister, Bobbie Jean Knight and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and four brothers.

The family request that donations be made to Toomsuba Baptist Church Building Fund or The Gideon’s International in lieu of flowers.
