Michael Wayne “Mike” Gunn, age 72, of Enterprise, MS, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Mike will be remembered for his strong work ethic and always said that he would never retire. At the young age of 72, Mike continued to work full-time and even worked up until the day he was hospitalized. Mike worked for Burlington Industries for over 27 years, The Service Company for over 14 years; he served as a member of the Enterprise School District Board, as an Alderman, and the Mayor for the town of Enterprise for many years. Mike currently was self-employed as a plumber and as the Mayor of Enterprise.

Mike will be most remembered for the love he had and showed for God, his family, the community and residents of Enterprise, his church, Enterprise Methodist Church, and the Enterprise School District. He was a true servant of God who was always available to help anyone in need, never expecting anything in return. Mike was one of the most caring, selfless, and generous Christian men which he demonstrated daily by always putting others first. He never missed an event held by his church, Enterprise School District, and the town of Enterprise, always showing up ready to serve. While Mike was notoriously known for being late, you could always count on him to be there.

Mike was an avid sports fan who loved watching and attending sports events, especially those at Mississippi State. During his high school years at Enterprise, Mike played all sports and was a great basketball player. He received a basketball scholarship to Jones County Junior College and went on to play there. Mike umpired baseball and softball and refereed basketball for over 42 years during summer league season, for the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA), at the college level, and yearly for the State Games of MS. For many years, Mike also volunteered his time by writing sports articles about the Enterprise School District sporting events which were published in The Clarke County Tribune.

Mike never met a stranger and his love for his family was tremendous. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mike was always present to support his children and grandchildren, regardless of the occasion. Mike was a great cook and loved to cook for his family, especially on Sundays. Mike never turned down a good home-cooked meal or a bowl of chips and salsa, that he ate on a daily basis.  Mike was the rock of his family and made sure they all knew he was just a phone call away any time of the day or night.

Mike is survived by his wife of 10 years, Jan; son, Steven (Lorrie); daughters, Robin (Will) and Lindsey (Scott); stepdaughter, Terrica; and stepson, Tyler (Kevin); grandchildren, Caleb (Rana), Brianna, Hannah Grace, Harley (Paxton), Noah, and Brycen; great-granddaughter, Everly Faye; sister, Deborah (Richard) and brothers, Martin (Jean) and Scotty; his beloved dachshund, Max; and numerous family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Eileen Gunn; his first wife and mother of his children, Debbie Gunn; great-niece, Lynn Mason; and several aunts and uncles.
