Mildred "Nell" Mcelroy Sollie

Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred “Nell” McElroy Sollie will begin at 1:00 pm Monday, June 17, 2019 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home chapel with the Reverends Kyle Naylor and Wally Blackman officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Mrs. Sollie, 93, of Marion, passed away June 13, 2019 at Bedford Care Center of Marion.

Mrs. Nell was born in Cuba, Alabama, graduated from Ponta High School and Southern Business College; she then worked for the FBI in Washington D.C. in World War II. In 1969 she went to work for Rush Foundation Hospital and retired in 1997 from Rush Medical Group as accounting clerk. In 1945 she married Hiram M. Sollie and was a devoted wife and loving mother of their three children. She was first and foremost a Christian and Children’s Ministry worker at First Baptist Church Marion as well as a member of The Believers Sunday School Class. She faithfully served with her husband as a deacon’s wife. In their final years Mrs. Nell and Mr. Hiram continued to serve as witnesses for Christ while residents at Bedford Care Center of Marion.

Mrs. Sollie is survived by her children, Dennis A. Sollie, H. Everett Sollie and Cassandra N. Sollie Black (Sheldon). Grandchildren, Stephanie Null (Robby), Dana Casey (Chad), Emmie Franklin (Jason), Christopher Sollie, Sarah Johnson (Chris), Cammie Rice (Nathan), Michael Black (Kayleigh) and Elizabeth Black as well as 18 Great-grandchildren. Siblings, Frances Broadhead (Dempsey) and James “Buddy” McElroy (Carol); sister-in-law, JoAnn McElroy, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Nell is preceded in death by her husband, Hiram M. Sollie; parents, Henry and Ethel McElroy; brother, William H. “Billy” McElroy; daughters-in-law, Shirley (Dennis) Sollie and Brenda (Everett) Sollie.

The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Marion Children’s Ministry.
