Mr. Miles Herrington, Jr., 97, and Mrs. Ina D. Herrington, 94, of Meridian, died at their home, Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Miles was born on March 2, 1927, in Collinsville, MS to Miles and Roberta Herrington. He volunteered to serve his country in the US Navy from April 1945 until August 1946. He returned home shortly before the end of World War II. Once back in Meridian, he was determined to earn his high school diploma and to join the Meridian High School Wildcat Football Team. After graduation, he attended Ross Collins Vocational School to receive his certification in HVAC. He worked for various companies including companies owned by Mr. Drinkwater and Mr. Cheatam until he finally landed a lead Maintenance Supervisor job at NAS Meridian. He was there until he retired in February of 1993.

Ina D. Herrington was born on June 15, 1929, in Meridian, MS to George and Tiny Danner. She graduated from Meridian High School in May of 1947. After graduation, she worked at the candy counter at S.H. Kress. After marriage and children, she decided to be a stay-at-home mom for a while. Later, she would work for the Credit Bureau owned by Mr. Tom Stephenson. She would work there up until her retirement in June of 1995.

Their greatest accomplishment, besides leaving a legacy for their family, was serving the Lord. They grew sweet potatoes to help raise funds to build Druid Hills United Methodist Church. They have faithfully served since 1958 while serving in various leadership positions. He served as the adult class Sunday School teacher for over 50 years as well as serving on the Pastor Parrish Committee, UMM organization, as Lay Leader, and so on. She, too, served as a Youth Leader, Young Adult Sunday School teacher, in the UMW organization, as a secretary, treasurer, etc. They were dedicated to being missionaries within their community by collecting items for Storm Relief Buckets, Wesley House, and other charitable local organizations. They also sang in the church choir. They were faithful in trusting and believing in God until their last breath.

Miles and Ina are survived by their daughter, Linda Farmer (William Monty); their grandchildren, Michelle Williamson (Clay), Scott Farmer (Jezebel), and William Miles Farmer; great-grandchildren, Malina Williamson, Mandy Farmer, Alexa Williamson, and Riley Pearl Farmer; siblings, Valdez Jackson, Frances McDaniel, and Judy Morton, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
