Minnie Belle Young Gandy Funeral services for Minnie Gandy will be held Monday, May 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Brother James Ruffin officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Mrs. Gandy, age 94, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Aldersgate Personal Care. Minnie was born in Bruce, MS in 1921. She came to Meridian, MS to train as a nurse at the age of 17. She graduated from the Meridian City Sanatorium. She was a nurse for Anderson Hospital and Riley's Hospital. She retired from Riley's Hospital in 1982 after 45 years of nursing. She was the supervisor of the 4th floor at Riley's Hospital. She was an active member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church. For the last nine years, she has resided at Aldersgate Personal Care. Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Diane Gandy Patin of Houston, TX; son, Woodrow Wilson Gandy Jr. of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Crystal Shelton, Rachel Gandy, and John Gandy; sister, Grace Goodson of Grenada, MS; brother, Frank Young of Memphis, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Gandy Sr.; parents, Belle and Tom Lee Young; sisters, Rosalie Young, Elizabeth Burleigh, and Sue Neal; and brother, Tom Lloyd Young. The family would like to express the sincere appreciation to the staff of Aldersgate Personal Care and to the Homebound Ministry at Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church.
