Murphy Culpepper, Sr.

Service for Murphy Culpepper will be Friday, June 10th, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in Meridian with Reverend Carl White and Jacob Scrimpshire officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Culpepper, age 86, of Meridian passed away June 7, 2016 at Jeff Anderson Regional Hospital.

Mr. Culpepper was born and raised in Meridian. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Mr. Culpepper was owner of a land surveying and mapping firm for over 30 years and served 5 terms as the county surveyor for Lauderdale County. He also was the 3rd person registered as a land surveyor in the state of Mississippi. Mr. Culpepper was a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church for over 60 years, where he was a deacon, choir member, and Sunday school teacher for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Culpepper; daughter, Pam Culpepper Stubbs; son, Murphy Culpepper (Tonya); sister, Betty Connell; grandchildren, Erin Purvis (Nathan), Shanna Scrimpshire (Jacob), Jessica Zettler (David), Leah Thomas Bellanger (Bobby), Hannah Culpepper, and Dylan Thomas; great-grandchildren, Jude Scrimpshire, Abe Scrimpshire, and Murphi Raley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Owen and Mary Anna Culpepper; brother, Leonard Owen Culpepper, Jr.; and sister, Mary Cerese Culpepper.

Pallbearers will be Robert Delk, Quinn Carlisle, Barry Gough, Phil Davis, Billy Stubbs, and Billy Beddingfield.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sid Yates, Elliott Fleming, Jack Medlin, and Tom McDaniel.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
