Nancy L Gipson

February 24, 1935 — January 11, 2025

Nancy Gipson, age 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Meridian, Saturday, January 11, 2025.

Funeral services for Nancy will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 10 AM, followed by an 11AM service officiated by Reverend Kenneth Owen. Immediately afterwards, burial will take place at Coy Community Cemetery. 37 Highway 21, Preston, MS 39354. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Nancy was born February 24, 1935, to Earl and Erma Lee Luke and reared on the family farm in the Coy Community.  She had two brothers, Hack and Jake Luke, and two sisters, Key Parker and Jo Adcock.  Key and Jo survive her.

She graduated from Bond High School, and then attended college in Scooba before marrying Roland Q. Palmer.  They had three children: Lila White, Vicky Follett and Buck Palmer.  Lila and Buck survive her. She had five grandchildren: Karl, Canaan, Solomon, Matt and Lizzie.  Karl, Solomon and Lizzie survive her, as do her three great-grandchildren Wyatt, Sawyer and Harper.  Nancy married again, this time to Hubert Gipson. Hubert passed away in 2001.

Nancy worked as a bookkeeper and tax specialist, first in Fairhope, AL, then later for Mr. Joe Sadka in Meridian.  When Mr. Sadka retired, she took over the business and ran it until her retirement, about 2002.  Nancy was very proud of her work, especially for what she could do for her customers during tax season.

Before and during retirement, she reveled in sunny days, especially with her extended family at the beaches of Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and the Florida panhandle.  She was an avid reader of all sorts of fiction.  Nancy was also a huge fan of classic western television shows, particularly Gunsmoke and Bonanza.

Nancy found joy in flowers and gardening, primarily roses and the spring and fall varieties.  These last few years, she enjoyed sitting out back during spring and summer afternoons with a glass of Zinfandel, reminiscing about her childhood and life on the farm while listening to Hank, Sr. and The Carter Family.

She treasured her friends, John, Marie, Neoma and especially Lotelle.  Her heart broke when Lotelle passed away.  Nancy adored the time she had with her sisters, Key and Jo and greatly appreciated everything they did for her.  She dearly loved her brothers, Hack and Jake, and missed them so much after they passed.  Nancy valued her caregivers from Vital Caring Group, especially Trina, who was her devoted shopping partner and constant companion. Finally, she thought so much of Pearlie Mae, who always made sure she had everything she needed.

Until very recently, she regularly attended an exercise class at the Meridian Activity Center.  She was always irritated when she missed a class. Last, she cherished her church and pastor at College Park Methodist.  When she could not go, she always tried to follow the sermon on Facebook.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Karl Bond, Solomon Bond, Buck Palmer, Britt Fox, Jr., Jack Parker, Jr., and John Luke.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to College Park Methodist Church, 1103 Hwy 19, Meridian, MS 39301.
