Nell Cunningham Taylor

September 24, 1931 — March 20, 2021

Nell Marie Cunningham Taylor, 89 years of age, passed away peacefully March 20, 2021, in her Meridian, Mississippi home.

She was born September 24, 1931 in Meridian, the only child of John and Flaura (Tinnin) Cunningham. She was a graduate of both Ponta High School and East Mississippi Community College (Scooba Tech). She was an instructor at Magnolia Speech School before spending 42 years self-employed with her husband as owners Queen CIty Insulation, Queen City Enterprises, Queen CIty Development, and is perhaps best known for operating Taylor’s Pak-a-Sak — known locally as the “Trojan Hangout” by
Northeast Lauderdale High School students, where she employed several young men from the community.

She was a long time active member of Briarwood Baptist Church. Mrs. Taylor never met a stranger without asking, “Do you have a church?”  and always extended an invitation to visit Briarwood if they didn’t.

An active member of her community and a believer in service to others, she maintained a long prayer list that she consulted daily.

She is survived by her children, Debbie Maxey (Robert), Jamie P. Taylor III (Jennifer), Laurie Cobb (Ivan); her grandchildren, Angela Maxey White (Eddie), John “Matt” Maxey, Lesley Taylor Chisolm (Zach), Jacob Taylor, Michael Cobb (Jamie), Makenzie Cobb Woodward (Print); her great grandchildren, Luke Mathis (Kayla), Emily White, Jody Maxey, Ryder Chisolm, Rose Chisolm, Olivia Cobb; and her great great grandchild, Will Mathis.

She is preceded in death by her spouse of 50 years, Jamie P. Taylor Jr.; her great grandchild, River Chisolm; and three beloved dachshunds, Bambi, Dutchess, and Molly.

Services will be held Monday, March 22, 2021 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home and officiated by Brothers Jack Kern and Brad Bakane. John “Matt” Maxey, Michael Cobb, Zach Chisolm, Print Woodward, George Culpepper, and Kendall McDill will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be at 1pm, followed by a service at 2pm in the chapel.
Burial to follow at the Tinnin Family Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Briarwood Baptist Church or the Autism Society of America ( autism-society.org ).

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Taylor’s caretakers, Luvenia Neal, Evelyn Serton, and Inece Silliman. They would also like to thank Doctors Shea Hailey, Greg Thaggard, Ric Alexander, and the nursing staff of 3 East of Jeff Anderson Regional Medicial Center as well as Kindred Home Health and Southern Care Hospice.
