Ms. Linton, born December 19, 1921, lived almost 103 years on this earth, and entered into eternal life November 27, 2024.
When she was only eight years old, her clothes caught fire, and she was severely burned. She heard her parents crying and prayed to God that He would allow her to live so her parents would stop crying. That was the beginning of her lifelong faith. When she was sixteen years old, her family moved from Scott County, into the Zero Community, where she entered Long Creek School and joined Pleasant Hill Methodist Church. It was during her Junior year of High Schol at Long Creek when Edwin Carl Linton rounded the corner, knocked her to the floor and scattered her books. He told his mother that afternoon that he had met the girl of his dreams, knocked her off of her feet, and would marry her one day. Three years later they married.
Nell was the oldest living member of Pleasant Hil United Methodist Church where she served as Nursery Director, Sunday School Teacher, Methodist Youth Fellowship Leader, President of United Methodist Women, Chair of the Administrative Council, Chair of the Pastor Parish Committee, Church Secretary and Treasurer, and enjoyed singing in the choir. During her life, she was employed at Burnley Shirt Factory, Medlin’s Fabrics and Peavy Electronics. She and her husband built and operated Zero Community Market for 11 years. This precious woman will always be remembered as a God fearing, hardworking woman of immeasurable faith, who loved her family and was always eager to help others.
She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Hosch (Michael); three grandsons, Brad Linton, David Hosch, and Dr. Richard Hosch (Shea); a step-grandson, Greg Jennings; a step-granddaughter, Melissa Nevitt (Aaron);three great-grandsons, Taylor, Ian and Samuel Hosch; two great-granddaughters, Emma Charlotte and Elizabeth Claire Hosch; a step great-grandson, Gabe Jennings; and step great-granddaughter, Ainsley Nevitt; three sisters-in-law, Betty Aycock, Cynthia Linton, and Marilyn Linton; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
Ms. Linton is preceded in this journey by her parents, Homer and Annie Aycock; her husband of nearly 67 years, Carl Linton; her son Terry Linton; and three brothers, Ralph Aycock (Mildred), Clois Aycock (Mary), and Melvin Aycock.
Pallbearers will be Nell’s three grandsons Brad Linton, David Hosch, and Richard Hosch, and three great-grandsons, Taylor Hosch, Ian Hosch, and Samuel Hosch.
Ms. Nell’s Family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers that compassionately loved and cared for their mother and Nanny Nell.
The Hosch Family requests that memorials be made as donations to your favorite charity or your church in lieu of flowers.
