Funeral services for Nevella Massey will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Temple officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.

Mrs. Massey, age 97, of Meridian passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Nevella was born in 1919 in Kentwood, Louisiana. She graduated from Mississippi College for Women in 1941, then served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1952 as dietician in the North African and Italian Campaign during World War II. She moved to Meridian in 1963 and was a dietician in Meridian area hospitals. She was active at Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church serving as Sunday School teacher, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 79 Meridian, and American Legion Auxiliary Dick McWilliams Post 125 Meridian. She had also been a member of the American Dietetic Association and the Mississippi Dietetic Association.

She is survived by her children, June Prater (Gilbert),  Dan Snyder (Jane), and Ann Cooper (Jackie); grandchildren, Tara Ross (Jason), Holly Byrnes (Brett), Lindsey Akins (Richard), Trey Prater (Brittany), John Snyder (Amy), and Adam Snyder; great grandchildren, Swayze, Mary Margaret, Becket, Carter, Sara Kate, Stella, Madison, Wyatt, Jackson, and Emily; sister, Evelyn Adams; brother, Warren Harris (Ruth); and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Massey; parents, James and Stella Harris; brothers, James “Jimmy” Harris and Bill Harris; sisters, Helen Fredrickson and Barbara Fischer; brothers-in-law, Fred Adams, Carl Fredrickson, and Harmon Fischer; and sister-in-law, Belle Harris.

Pallbearers will be Trey Prater, John Snyder, Adam Snyder, Richard Akins, Jason Ross, Brett Byrnes, and William Harris.

The family request memorials be made to the local American Legion Chapter, the local VFW Post, or Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church.
