Noel William "Bill" Workman Graveside services for Noel William "Bill" Workman will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Mississippi Veterans Cemetery in Newton with Reverend Davey Wilkinson officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Workman, age 95, of Meridian, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Coker's Chapel Methodist Church. Mr. Workman served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War, retiring in 1969 as Chief Petty Officer after 30 years of service. He also served as Captain of the Naval Air Station Fire Department Structural Fire and Crash and Rescue Service until 1974. After his retirement at NAS, he was appointed Fire Service Coordinator for the Lauderdale County Volunteer Fire Departments. He also served as Fire Chief of Russell Fire Department. He was a member of local organizations including VFW Post 79, EJ Knox Blue Lodge No. 74, Toomsuba Masonic Lodge No. 130 York Rite Bodies, and Russell Community Development Club. Bill was an active member of the Hamasa Temple Shrine, and served as Provost Guard Marshall in 1991 and 1998. He currently held the position of Vice-President of the Provost Guard Unit and was proud of its contribution to the Shriners Hospital for Children. Bill remained active in his later years farming and enjoying outdoor activities. He is survived by his sons, Donald C. Workman and wife Pat of Forsyth, Georgia, Thomas Noel Workman and wife Julie of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Robert L. Workman and wife, Carol Jo of Meridian; daughter, Sandra W. Speed and husband Charles of Meridian; grandchildren William Shane Workman, Waylon Huff, Michelle Edinfield, Tina Fletcher and husband David, Thomas Noel Workman II and wife Le Dee, Holly Hilton and husband Dallas, Robert L. Workman, Jr. and wife Marla, LeAnn Vick and husband Todd, Trent Workman, Lindsay S. Nomichith and husband Nate, Chandler G. Speed; and thirteen great-grandchildren; numerous niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Geraldine E. "Gerry" Workman; son, USMC Sergeant Major William Gary "Bill" Workman. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Shane Workman, Tommy Workman, Robby Workman, Trent Workman, Chandler Speed, and David Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers will be Nate Nomichith, Dallas Hilton, Waylon Huff, and Todd Vick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Hamasa Shrine-Transportation Fund, P.O.
