Funeral services for Marie Gilbert will be held Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Chunky Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Campbell and Reverend Matt Pittman officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery on Chunky-Duffee Road with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Gilbert, age 91, of Chunky passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Bedford Care Center.

She ran a hard and faithful race. Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with a big loving heart.

Loyal praying Christian that served her church and community with much love.

Cooking, flowers and gardening were her passions that she used to bless all the family and community. Her recipes live on as they are being used by many family cooks and others.

She began her career as sales clerk, moved to bookkeeper for two businesses then finished as business manager for Gilbert & Alexander Hardware in Hickory! Her most important role was homemaker.

She is survived by her sons, Rick Gilbert (Lane) of Benton, Mississippi and John Gilbert (Cheri) of Chunky, Mississippi; grandchildren, Wanda Gilbert Smith (Brett), Eric Gilbert (Stephanie), Cory Gilbert, and Emily Gilbert; great grandchildren, Garrett Gilbert and Russell Haydel; brother, R.E. Alexander; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Gilbert; parents, Clarence Alexander and Dovey Wolverton Alexander; brothers, R.C. Alexander and Billy Ray Alexander; and sisters, Claudine Smith and Bonnie Ward.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Addy, Charles Hurst, Billy Gressett, Roger Shirley, Raymond Moore, Clyde Wright, and Stan Nelson.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home and thirty minutes prior to the service on Sunday at Chunky Baptist Church.
