Mrs. Patsy Ann Woolverton McCubbin, age 92, of Meridian, MS, passed peacefully at home on April 21, 2025, entering her heavenly home.
Born May 4, 1932, in Mabank, Texas, to Eugene and Evon Woolverton, Pat shared an unbreakable bond with her sister, Melba Norman. Melba and Pat made countless memories over the years—especially during summers when they packed their eight children into Pat’s Chevy station wagon and headed to Mabank for porch-sitting, laughter, and storytelling with their mother, and summer camp for the kids. Thanksgivings in Meridian were legendary, stretching across three fun-filled days. The celebration often brought together more than 60 relatives—their children and spouses, grandchildren, great-grands, and cousins—for seven unforgettable meals, punctuated by five kinds of cookies and plenty of laughter.
Pat married Rev. David McCubbin, her faithful husband for 68 years, building a life of faith and service and raising four daughters: Susan Johnson (David) of Houston, TX; Melanie Carroll (Randy) of Meridian, MS; Laurie Alford (Parrish) of Tupelo, MS; and Connie Calhoun (Ward) of Collinsville, MS.
Pat’s grands and great-grands lit up her heart. Grandchildren: Katie (Jesse) Bogan, Ashley Jawetz, Alison (Carlos) Gonzales, John (Julie) Carroll, Nathan (Ashley) Carroll, Emily (Sam) McCreary, Kyle (Mary Morgan) Alford, Drew (Abby) Calhoun, Caroline (Armond) Williams, and Cameron Calhoun. Great-grandchildren: Vivian Bogan, Maddie Gonzales, Aubrey Gonzales, James Carroll, Anna Ruth Carroll, Cooper Carroll, Cate Carroll, Mary Mark Alford, Mac Calhoun, and Hensley Calhoun. She also cherished her nieces and nephews, and their host of children and grandchildren.
Known for her famous chocolate chip cookies, Pat had a heart for children. For over 40 years, she taught third grade Sunday School at First Baptist Meridian, where her faithful Saturday evening phone calls—“Just checking to see if you’ll be in Sunday School tomorrow”—became a lasting memory for generations of children.
She also spent 21 years teaching first grade in Meridian Public Schools, where her high standards and well-honed “teacher look” helped countless children learn to read and write.
Pat’s passion for missions ran deep. She actively participated in the Women’s Missionary Union and the Beaman-Hodgins WMU Group. She enjoyed hosting and attending meetings of the Round Table Book Club and the Lauderdale Baptist Association Ministers’ Wives. Other involvements included Retired Teachers, leading an after-school Boys and Girls Club Bible study group, and tutoring at Parkview Elementary.
Her life was anchored in her unwavering faith in Christ and bore witness to His love, grace, and the hope of eternal life.
We are deeply grateful to Home Instead and Compassus Hospice, whose support allowed us to care for our mother at home. A special thanks to April Leach, whose loving care sustained her over the past 2½ years.
Pat leaves behind not just a family, but a legacy of faith, love, and humor. While we mourn her passing, we rejoice that she is now at peace, singing praises before the heavenly throne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Meridian Children’s Area Renovation Fund.
