Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Mrs. Billups, age 93, was born in Meridian, MS, and grew up in Enterprise, MS. After earning her high school diploma from Enterprise, she attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, where she received her degree in nursing. She worked as a head RN at Rush Hospital for many years and was a faithful member of the Rush Foundation Nurses Association. Additionally, she led training classes for nurses’ aids at Meridian Community College. Many years later, she went into psychiatric nursing at East MS State Hospital. She always commented that psychiatric nursing was so much better than the medical side. She found it truly fascinating and fulfilling.

Mrs. Billups enjoyed a plethora of activities and hobbies. She was a gifted seamstress and made all three of her children’s school/play clothes. She was a talented artist and painted dozens of beautiful pictures, many of which were sold or hung in the Meridian Museum of Art. She learned to cook before she could safely reach the top of their wood burning stove. Because of this, she could cook or bake anything you desired, and it was always scrumptious! Playing piano was also a passion of hers. She especially loved to play worship songs and sing about her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member to the churches she attended over the course of her life. In order, they were Concord Methodist, Jones Memorial Presbyterian, Liberty Church, and finally First Assembly Meridian. She had a passion for seeing the lost come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior as well as having the heart of a true intercessor. These scriptures describe her perfectly: “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” Romans 1:16 “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous one avails much.” James 5:16

She made her peaceful and beautiful, heavenly transition Monday, September 9, 2024, at her residence, The Neighborhood at Madison.
