Peggy Joyce Johnson

Funeral services for Peggy Joyce Johnson will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Long Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson, 77, of Meridian, passed away September 24, 2016, at Rush Hospital.

Peggy Joyce was a graduate of Meridian High School where she was also a cheerleader. She was an incredibly talented musician who taught thousands of local students over the past sixty years, as well as provided piano and organ accompaniments for many churches, school events, weddings and funerals. Peggy Joyce was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was fiercely loyal and always put others before herself. She and her husband loved to attend auctions and go to flea markets, but their greatest joy came from animal rescue. Peggy also assisted her husband with his coin appraisal business.

Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Herman Gray Johnson, III; daughters, Cathy Ann Johnson of Walker, Louisiana, and Dianne (Donald) Kitchens of Plano, Texas, and son, Larry Johnson, of Meridian; grandchildren, Brandon Eubanks and wife, Corey, of St. Amant, Louisiana, Daniel Kitchens and wife, Pamela, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, David Kitchens of Richardson, Texas, and Kyle Johnson of Meridian; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Florence Shirley.

Pallbearers will be David Kitchens, Douglas Kitchens, Jeff McDevitt, Brandon Eubanks, Michael Shirley, and Roger Shirley.

Memorials can be made in her honor to East Mississippi Animal Rescue or The American Cancer Society.
