Phil Scarbrough, Jr.

Funeral Services for Phil Scarbrough will be held Friday, November 20, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Doug Goodman officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Mr. Scarbrough, age 61, of Meridian, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 in Meridian.

Phil was a graduate of Jeff Davis High School and spent most of his working career at Brown Bottling Group.  Phil excelled at in many different sports and passed those abilities to his sons through countless hours of practice and sometimes the occasional argument on how they should be hitting more balls to the opposite field or using the left hand more for layups.  Phil spent most of his time coaching his boys’ baseball and basketball teams over the years.  Some of those years resulted in zero wins while others produced state championships.  Phil’s efforts resulted in both of his sons playing collegiate level baseball.  For that, they are forever thankful and now have a better understanding of why he complained about his arm hurting after hours of batting practice.

Phil’s favorite hobby was golf, and he played every chance he got.  His golf group will surely miss “ole lefty” as much as his family.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Scarbrough; sons, Tyler Scarbrough (Katie) of Atlanta, GA, Taylor Scarbrough of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Anna Katherine Scarbrough, Hadley Scarbrough, and Ellie Thomas Scarbrough; sister, Sonja McMullen (Lenoy); and nephew, Austin McMullen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon P. Scarbrough, Sr. and Mae Jean Taylor Scarbrough.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Phil’s name to East Mississippi Animal Rescue or another charity of your choice.
