Services for Phillip Andy Heflin will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Bro. Jamie Lamoreaux officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2017 at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Heflin, age 50, of Meridian, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Anderson Regional Medical Center of Meridian.
Andy was a member of Northeast Lauderdale Volunteer Fire Department where he was the assistant chief. He was a MAIS football, basketball, baseball and softball official and MHSAA baseball and softball umpire as well as USA Softball umpired. Andy also umpired the U.S. Olympic Softball game at Mississippi State University in 2008. Andy was also awarded Umpire of the year numerous times. He was an avid fisherman and loved watersports as well as spending time with his family on vacation. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and was an excellent chef for family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years and high school sweetheart, Angelia, and his two children, Allison and Dylan. His father William Heflin and his wife Betty, and brother Jim Heflin. Mother-in-law, Dolores Gibson and her husband Larry; as well as many special friends especially Penny and Ricky Rust and Jerry Stewart “Pawpaw”.
He was preceded in death by his mother Patsy Heflin and father-in-law Jerry Watson.
The family request memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in lieu of flowers.
Pallbearers will be his football refereeing crew, Cary Luke, Alvin Alexander, Shay Cooper, Chris Nutt, Marcus Irby, and “Pawpaw” Jerry Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Thompson and Jerry Dean.
