Phyllis Acree Pettey Memorial servicPhyllis Acree Pettey Memorial services for Phyllis Acree Pettey will be held Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 4:00 at First Christian Church, with Dr. Tom Sikes officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ms. Pettey, 67, of Meridian died Thursday, October 28, 2010 at her residence. She was born in Meridian,MS and graduated from Meridian High School. While in high school she was a member of the Dusty Social Service Club. She received her BAA in accounting from the University of Mississippi where she also was a member of Delta Delta Delta Soroity and was voted senior maid in 1964 homecoming court. In Meridian she was active in the community serving as treasurer for the Meridian Junior Auxiliary, and delivering food with the Meals on Wheels program. She also volunteered at MCC's College for Kids and served tables during the Kentucky Ham Breckfast at First Christian Church. She loved the outdoors and was an accomplished bass fisherman. She even caught a five pound bass on WTOK's Outdoors with George. Phyllis was never afraid to speak her mind and her candor was one of her best qualities. She will be missed by her family, friends and coworkers. Survivors include her son, Dr. David Pettey and his wife Heather of Meridian; grandchildren, Anna Blair, Carson and Reed Pettey; brothers, Herbert Acree and his wife Tula of Dallas, TX, Corky Acree and his wife Lorie of Tulsa, OK; mother, Fritz Acree of Meridian.
