Mr. Brewster, 88, of the Vimville Community, died Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the MS Veterans Nursing Center in Kosciusko, MS following an extended illness.
"Hoss" as he was known by his friends, completed a career spanning over 33 years at James River Paper Mill and enjoyed every minute of his retirement. He loved to “Plow up the world” with his gardens; when he wasn’t on the tractor, he enjoyed wetting a hook and running deer dogs. During his children’s youth, he enjoyed coaching softball teams for his girls and all their friends; he was well known for his coaching abilities. He also enjoyed camping at Chilatchee Creek with Mrs. Peggy and getting in some fishing time as well. He was a Christian by faith, and was a dedicated, lifelong member, of Cokers Chapel Church. After moving to Kosciusko, he was well known by the staff and was named “Mayor” of the V.A. Home. He was well liked and loved by all he met, but most of all he loved being a husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.
Mr. Brewster is survived by his wife, of over 64 years, Peggy Brewster; his daughters, Dana Harper (William), Penny Cooke (Lincoln), and Michele Brewster; grandchildren, Victoria Grace McKenzie (Drake), Lorin Thomas Cooke; great-granddaughters, Raylen Jade Cooke and Emory Wren McKenzie; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Mr. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Hamp and Louise Brewster; sisters, Laurine Carlisle, Faye Ford, and Frances Rawson; and one brother, Lorin Brewster.
Pallbearers will be Benji Hammond, Brad Higginbotham, Butch Linton, Lorin Cooke, Drake McKenzie, and Lynn Latham; honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Moore, Bill Latham, William Harper, and Lincoln Cooke.
The Brewster Family suggests memorials be made as donations, in lieu of flowers, to The Alzheimer’s Association.
