Mr Spurrier, age 77, of Meridian, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at his home.
Richard joined the Navy at the age of seventeen and served during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Master Chief after serving for twenty-five years, remaining in Meridian and working at NAS.
Richard is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Barbara Hoskins Spurrier; his children, Tamara Spurrier and Jill Spurrier (Scott) Doolittle; grandchildren, Kevin and Brandy Williams, Emma and Jacob Martin, Joseph Woodall, and David Doolittle; brother, George (Virginia) Spurrier and his children, Patricia Cook and Martina Hedrick; sister-in-law, Dean Spurrier and nieces, Nila Lambert and Lessie Redican; brother-in-law, Cecil (Claudia) Hoskins and his children, Karen, Teresa, and April; sisters-in-law, Vern, Mae, and Gracie. He also leaves behind numerous other special family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cecelia Spurrier; his brother, John Spurrier; half-sister, Mary Zook.
