Robert E. "Bob" Atkinson, Jr. Services for Robert E. "Bob" Atkinson, Jr. will be held Monday, April 22, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Jimmy Culpepper and Brother Bill Webb officiating. Burial will be in Meehan Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Atkinson, 66, of the Meehan Community died Thursday, April 18, 2013, at his home. He was a member of Goodwater Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon in 1978. He also was a Sunday School teacher for many years and worked with the youth. He also was a former Gideon and was affiliated with Spaceway Truck Stop Ministry. Mr. Atkinson was a Charter member of the Meehan Fire and Rescue and also served on the Board of Directors. He was retired from Delco Remy. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father and friend. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Dianne Joiner Atkinson; daughter, Karen Atkinson of Clinton; son, Robert G. "Robby" Atkinson and wife Nikki of the Meehan Community; sister-in-law, Shelia Joiner the of the Meehan Community; brother in-law Gary Joiner and wife Chris of Hickory; uncles, Charles "Son" Atkinson and Willard "Punk" Atkinson and wife Iva Nell both of Philadelphia; aunts, Mildred Ryals-Sanford of DeKalb and Charlene Atkinson of Biloxi; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and also numerous aunts , uncles and cousins, by marriage and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father Robert E. Atkinson, Sr. and mother Trudie Atkinson; uncle, Walter Atkinson and mother-in-law Deloris Joiner and aunt Margie Atkinson.
