Robert Earl “Bob” Hill, Jr.

Funeral services for Robert Earl “Bob” Hill, Jr., will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Reverend Bob Null officiating.

Mr. Hill passed away Sunday morning on September 11, 2016, at the age of 73.

Bob was born in Quitman, Mississippi to Robert Earl Hill, Sr. and Rida Hill and the family moved to Meridian when he was three years old. He was a big fisherman and earned the name “Soapman” due to fishing for catfish, and teaching others to fish, using a soap line. His favorite pastime was spending time at his fishing camp on the Tombigbee River in Gainesville, Alabama.  He was president of the fishing camp for thirty-one years, until his health caused him to have to leave that job. Although he and his wife had no children, they had four dogs that were the love of his life. They brought him much joy and loved him with unconditional love. Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Alice Hill; father, Robert Earl Hill, Sr.; three brothers, George (Susan) Hill, Jerry (Beth) Hill, and Harold (Betsy) Hill, as well as a large number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rida Massingale Hill.
