Known to some as “Roddy”, to some, “Yates”, to some “Cuz”, to some, “Dad”, and to some, “Pop”, Rod was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. A quintessential Southerner, Rod was grateful for the many friends he made during his childhood in Meridian, and at stops at Ole Miss, Atlanta, Baton Rouge, and Memphis.
Rod now moves on to the big Grove in the sky - holding court and sharing tall tales in the presence of dear friends who’ve already arrived - where the beer is always cold, the chicken always fried, and the Rebels never lose; where the Braves just won the World Series, the Marlboro reds are plentiful, and Ernest Tubb is blasting from the jukebox; where’ll he finally get to meet Mickey Mantle and John Vaught, where great books are published every day, and where his doting and loving mama is home waiting for him with a fresh batch of teacakes.
He is survived by his sisters, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, his de facto adopted daughter, and a multitude of friends old and new who can all attest to his kindness, quick wit, good humor, and ferocious loyalty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Hinson of Meridian; his sister, Diane Garrison; brother, Grady Earl Hinson of Meridian, and his beloved uncle, William R. Wilson of Cleveland, Mississippi.
The family requests that any memorials be made to St. Richard Catholic School in Jackson, Mississippi, or St. Joseph Catholic High School in Madison, Mississippi, where two of his grandchildren attend and carry on his example of excellence in academics and athletics.
Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com.
The Garrison family will receive friends from 10:30 am until service time at the funeral home.
