Roy Herman Farrar Services for Roy Herman Farrar will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Wall officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Scooba, MS with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Farrar, 88, of Meridian, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Aldersgate Retirement Community. He was born in Kemper County, Mississippi. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Hamasa Shriners, Central United Methodist Church and a Veteran of the United States Navy. He was employed with the Mississippi State Department of Health for 40 years, and during this time, he enjoyed refereeing high school and college basketball and umpiring high school and recreational league softball games. After retirement, he was a greeter at Walmart, served as a security guard at Rush Hospital, worked at Winn Dixie, and continued to umpire local youth softball. His favorite pastime was talking to people, and he never met a stranger. He was a devoted caregiver for his wife and mother, always willing to help those in need, and loved his family dearly. Survivors include his sons, Don Farrar and wife Debbie, of Meridian, and Mike Farrar and wife Lori, of Brandon; sister, Dorothy Smith, of Columbus; grandchildren, Dr. Jason Farrar and wife Francine, Jared Farrar and wife Sonia, Jessica Anderson and husband Drew, all of Meridian, Zachary Farrar and Brittany Farrar of Brandon; great-grandchildren, Hayden Farrar, Elana Farrar, Kinsley Farrar, Bella Farrar, Holland Farrar, Lane Anderson, and Bentley Farrar; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Elsie Farrar, his parents W.A. Farrar and Johnnie Farrar McConnell, and his step-father, Roy McConnell. Pallbearers will be Jason Farrar, Jared Farrar, Zachary Farrar, and Drew Anderson. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com.
