Funeral services for Ruff Daniel “Dan” Compton will be held Friday, March 11, 2016, at 11:30 a.m., at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Brother Dale Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Church Cemetery in the Clarkdale community (Valley Road).
Mr. Compton, age 79, of Clarkdale, passed away March 6, 2016, at Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Dan was born August 10, 1936, to Mae Jewel (Heathcock) Compton and James Artie Compton in Meridian, MS. He was a 1955 graduate of Clarkdale High School. Mr. Compton retired as a Master Sergeant from the Air Force and Mississippi Air National Guard with 26 years of service to our Country. He also worked for Kerr-McGee Chemical and West Building Materials for many years.
An avid gardener, there was nothing he couldn’t grow. His produce, peaches, and figs were the best around. He loved nothing more than to get up at the break of dawn to work in his gardens, and would not stop until sunset or afterwards. Mr. Compton was well-respected in the community and loved the Lord and his church, Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Kacia Susanne (Jeff) Goodger; his son, Daniel Brent (Jill) Compton; grandchildren, Tyler Goodger, Jessica Goodger, Heather Goodger, Shelby Compton, Michael Compton, and Emily Compton; a great-grandchild, Grayson White; a sister, Delores (Peter) Orr; a brother, Bobby (Lila) Compton; his ex-wife and dedicated caregiver, Brenda Sue Skelton Compton; and his loyal and loving dog, Gabi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. J. A. Compton; and a brother, James Artie Compton, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Charles Compton, S.P. Kidd, Sr., S. P. Kidd, Jr., S. P. Kidd, III, Jerry Ray Cumberland, and Ronald Harris.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
