Services for Rufus Alvin Rawson will be held Friday, September 2, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Tom Wood officiating. Burial will be in Rawson Tinnin Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Rawson, 81, of Meridian died Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at his residence.

He served in the Army and Air Force for seven years. He traveled the world with the military. Mr. Rawson also worked with the Mississippi Forestry Department for ten years and then he retired after twenty four years from the Forestry Department at the Naval Air Station in Meridian. He was a Mason with Andrew Chapel Lodge and was a member of Briarwood Baptist Church. He will be remembered as a wonderful father, a loving husband, a person full of patience who loved and helped all those around him. He had a great since of humor and loved his family.

Survivors include two daughters Betty Rawson McCary and husband William of Meridian, Sally Meadows and her husband Elson of Meridian; one son James Rawson and wife Leah of Tuscaloosa; twin sister Annie Ruth Wilkins of Meridian; a brother Jimmy Rawson of Meridian; five grandchildren Danielle and Dillon Faile, Courtney Meadows, Logan and Landon Rawson; and two step grandchildren Cody and Jordan McCary.

He was preceded in death by wife Dorine Covington Rawson; parents James and Lizzie Mae Rawson; brothers James Rawson, H. L. Rawson, Billy Rawson and Bob Rawson; sisters Allie Naville and Nancy Coleman.

Pallbearers will be Larry Dean, Steve Dyess, D.L. Jones, Stanley Rawson, Jim Copeland, Dave Irby, Jeff Darby and Stephen Dyess.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 pm. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
