Ruth Evelyn Springfield Ray Graveside services for Ruth Evelyn Springfield Ray will be held at the Ray Family Cemetery in Raytown, MS on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend J. Brian Ponder of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Meridian, MS officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Ruth Evelyn Springfield Ray, born March 6, 1928 in West, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2014. Mrs. Ray lived for many years in Madison, MS, but for the past thirteen years she was living at Aldersgate Retirement Community in Meridian, MS to be closer to family. She lived a very long and full life. Quick with a joke and a ready smile, Mrs. Ray was a gourmet cook with her favorite menus being traditional southern cuisine. Mrs. Ray is survived by three daughters: Sallie Clements Friedman (Mrs. Jack Edwin) of Greenwood, MS; Marsha Clements Twiford (Rainer) of Mountain Brook, AL; and Melissa Ray Calcote (Rob) of Meridian, MS. Mrs. Ray also leaves behind four grandchildren: Eleanor Twiford Larvan (Peter); James Rainer Twiford, Jr.; William Clements Twiford; Lelia Claire Calcote, and one great-grandchild; Clementine Elizabeth Larvan. She is also survived by a sister, Deline Springfield Taylor (Mrs. L.C.), of Crystal Springs, MS, and Mrs. Ray's special friend, Mr. Jim Harvey. Mrs. Ray was predeceased by her husband, Murray Freeman Ray, of Madison, MS, her parents Uel Murphy Springfield and Sallie Brownlee Springfield of Ethelsville, AL and Greenwood, MS., and a brother, William Uel Springfield. The family would like to thank Mrs. Ray's caregiver, Gail Grady, and the entire staff of Aldersgate Retirement Community for their love and support over these last years.
