Mrs. Walker, 93, of Newton, passed away Friday, April 17, 2020 at the Beehive Home in Newton.

Mrs. Walker was born February 27, 1927 to Clint and Ludie Mae Daniels Gressett of Chunky, MS and was the eldest of nine children. She began motherhood at an early age by caring for her siblings following the unexpected death of their mother. At the age of 20, she married Onnie Walker, and moved to Newton where they began raising their family on their dairy farm. Mrs. Ruth was not only a fulltime mother and farmer’s wife but was also employed for many years before retiring from La-Z-Boy of Newton. Following retirement, she began her fulltime role as a “Mamaw” and also volunteered her time for many years as a “pink lady” at Pioneer Community Hospital, formerly Newton Regional Hospital. She was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church where she served on many committees and was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the WMU and Order of the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed celebrating any occasion and always looked for an excuse to fill the home with family. Her faith in God and love of family and friends were the cornerstones of her existence and her ever present compassion was the trademark of her life.

Mrs. Ruth is survived by her children, Wiley Walker (Linda), Sherry Hall (Brad), Paul Walker (Mae), and Jeff Walker (Julie); 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Sisters, Inez Sims, Bonnie Simmons, Betty Crane (Tom); brothers, Vic Gressett, and Larry Gressett (Minnie), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and numerous extended family members.

Mrs. Walker is preceded in death by her husband, Onnie Walker; son, Jerry Walker; siblings, Dennis Gressett, Billy Gressett, and Geneva Dorough, as well as parents, Clint and Ludie Mae Gressett.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
