Funeral services for Mr. Sam Evans will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Rev. Jack Kern officiating. Interment will be held at Briggs Chapel Cemetery in Porterville. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Sam Bell Evans, 87, of Meridian, MS passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the Mississippi Care Center of DeKalb, MS.
He is survived by his children, Debra Lynn Evans Asmus husband, James, Patricia Kay Evans Parnell, husband Perry, and Sam Bill Evans and wife, Vicki; brother, Jimmie Evans. PaPa Sam has six granddaughters, two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.
Mr. Evans is preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Juanice Brown Evans; his parents Samuel Leslie Evans and Mattie McConnell Evans; sisters, Dollie Mae Evans, Ruby Dell Evans Stine Taylor; and brother, Joe Thomas Evans; granddaughters, Sandy Lynn Evans and Leslie Hannah Parnell.
Mr. Evans served as a Boson’s Mate III aboard the U.S.S. Eversole. Post Navy service started out as a dogcatcher in El Centro, California, working his way up throughout the ranks until he retired in 1977 as the Assistant Chief of Police. Upon retirement, he moved back to his hometown of DeKalb, MS and worked thirteen years at the Kemper County Farm Supply and served as an Alderman for the town of DeKalb. Our beloved father, grandfather, and brother will be missed.
